Aluminium rods in the ManuLoc Rhizo provide stabilisation of the wrist and thumb. These bars are anatomically shaped, but can be adjusted by an orthopaedic instrument maker if required to ensure optimal support. Although maximum immobilisation of the joint is paramount at the start of treatment, during the course of treatment it is important to train the muscles to ensure they recover fully.

Using a Velcro closure, the thumb's range of motion can be adjusted in a controlled manner. Once the thumb has recovered, the thumb orthosis can be removed completely. This ensures that all fingers can be used again for picking up objects, but at the same time the wrist remains stabilised and the risk of injury is minimised.
