Which knee support do I need?

A knee brace can be used for a great many conditions and complaints. The braces are available in three different levels of protection. Each protection level is tailored to the type of complaint. In this blog, we provide you with additional information on a number of knee complaints and advise you on which knee brace is best suited for the complaint in question. Please don't hesitate to read on below:

Kneecap fracture

A kneecap fracture is usually caused by a hard collision or fall. However, long-term overuse can also eventually lead to a patella fracture. The treatment of such a fracture is always surgery. After this surgery, it is advisable to wear a knee brace. For such a serious injury, we recommend choosing a knee brace of protection level 3. This offers the very best support in the event of serious injuries/complaints/conditions. For this complaint, we recommend the Novamed MAX Hinged Knee Support with Crossed Straps. If you are further on in rehabilitation and no longer have that many complaints, you can also choose a model with protection level 2, such as the Dunimed Premium Lightweight Knee Support with Busks.

Bursitis

A bursa is a kind of cushion on bone parts that protrude, such as the hip, shoulder, knee and elbow. When the bursa is overused, it can become inflamed, resulting in bursitis. If you suffer from bursitis, we advise you to use the Medidu Knee Sleeve. This knee brace has protection level 1 and offers light support.

Instability

Knee instability occurs when your cruciate ligaments no longer function properly or are destroyed. You often notice this during activities in which a great deal of lateral force is exerted on the knee. Wearing a knee brace is an excellent aid to reduce your pain and to give the unstable knee the support it needs. The Novamed Lightweight Hinged Knee Support is a brace with protection level 3. This is the highest level of protection. With this brace, your knee receives optimum support. The brace is lightweight, which means that you can still move around freely. The brace also has a perfect fit and is very comfortable to wear.

Meniscus

There are two menisci in the knee; one on the outside and one on the inside. They prevent the cartilage from being overloaded or damaged while walking. They also have a stabilising function. Although meniscus problems can occur at any age, we see that they occur more often in old age. This is because the meniscus is strong and elastic at a younger age and becomes weaker with age. Problems with the meniscus can fortunately be resolved by wearing a knee brace. If meniscus problems also cause an unstable feeling in the knee, we recommend the Novamed Lightweight Hinged Knee Support. This brace has protection level 3, i.e. the highest protection level. This knee brace also offers an enormous degree of comfort. If you are experiencing slight complaints and the knee does feel stable, we recommend a model with protection level 2, such as the Dunimed Knee Support with Busks.

Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis of the knee is also known as cartilage damage. There are several factors that can cause this. These include overuse, a growth disorder, inflammation or heredity. The most common symptoms are stiffness, pain, swelling, instability and restricted movement. For support of your knee joint, we recommend the Novamed Lightweight Hinged Knee Support. This brace, of protection level 3, is suitable for moderate to serious knee complaints.
